Endermology – The War on Cellulite

Almost all women have some cellulite. Largely caused by weight gain, genetic predisposition and hormonal changes, cellulite is essentially a build up of fat cells in the subcutaneous fat layer that have increased up to 300 times their original size and stuck together inside the pockets in which they are enclosed.

The pocket is then stretched upward while the fibres between the pockets are strained, circulation is inhibited and toxins and water become trapped, resulting in the well known ‘orange peel’ like appearance.

Endermology is the process of removing cellulite by a ‘mechanical’ means. It is a non-surgical procedure that effectively reduces the appearance of cellulite, increases circulation and reduces water retention.

Endermology essentially performs gymnastics on your skin and underlying tissue; the suction and motorized vibrators massage and exercise your skin in a way that is especially beneficial for increasing circulation, mobilizing your connective tissue and therefore facilitating an exchange of fluid and clearance of fats.

Endermology directly alters two of the factors that originally caused cellulite to appear, thus reducing its appearance and assisting in a visible improvement in both skin tone and body shape.

A recently published study of 85 women between the ages of 21 to 61 found that 46 patients who completed seven Endermology sessions showed a mean index reduction in body circumference of 1.34 cm, while 39 patients who completed 14 sessions of treatments showed a mean index reduction in body circumference of 1.83 cm.

In addition to its esthetic and therapeutic effects, Endermology has numerous anti-aging benefits. Adapted for all ages, it is particularly effective in dealing with the effects of time. In fact, as years go by, circulatory problems tend to worsen, the skin loses its elasticity, fatty deposits may stretch the skin, and wrinkles appear.

By increasing circulation, Endermology restores the balance of connective tissue, and improves the skin’s appearance and tone. Endermology is a source of well-being that allows for a graceful aging process, both physically and psychologically.

The ideal is to have this treatment twice a week, it has been found that more treatments each week does not necessarily mean quicker results. In fact if you are simultaneously in the process of losing a significant amount of weight or if you have a long-term problematic cellulite condition, one treatment a week may suit you best.

Sessions last around 55 mins when combined with the vibration-exercise program, allowing the treatment to focus on problems areas but also give time to stimulate general circulation and elimination. Most people see significant changes within 5-6 sessions, but 10-15 is the average number of suggested treatments. Monthly maintenance may be suggested after these.
